The regulating lock at Borensberg was completed in 1820. It was the first to be built under Swedish supervision. The work was carried out by men who had been trained on site by British foremen.
Keep an eye out for the badgers, Göte and Göta Grävling, who might pop up along the canal this summer!
Here you will find our friends Göte and Göta Grävling and their secret friend Baby Nessie. Göte and Göta live by the Göta Canal. They have lived and played here all their life. The whole family has been involved in digging the Canal. Göte works in Motala guest harbour and Göta lives in Sjötorp. If you’re lucky, you may meet them in the summer. Both really like children.
Göte keeps the harbour in order. He makes sure there is petrol for all the boats. He checks that the ice cream kiosk is open and that there is plenty of food to eat at the restaurant. Göte wants all the ropes to be in good condition and he is careful to make sure that everyone has a life jacket.
Göta looks after the locks in Sjötorp. She makes sure that the doors are opened and closed. Just the right amount of water should come in not too much and not too little. Göta wants everyone who locks to help each other. Sometimes children ask her the way to the sweet shop.
