Timber

All the timber for sluice gates, buildings and jetties is taken from the Canal Company’s own forests. In the old days pine was used for ships’ masts. These days the highest, straightest fir trees are used for renovating sluices. The material used for gate leaves and frames needs to be at least 7.20 metres long with a diameter of over 50 centimetres at the top end.
