Favourite Midsummer food includes new potatoes boiled with dill, and many different kinds of herring served with soured cream and chives, followed by strawberries. Herring is at the heart of Sweden’s food culture and it is one of the most important dishes at national holidays and special occasions, whether it’s Midsummer, Christmas or Easter.

West Sweden is blessed with a plentiful supply of top-quality herring, caught along the Bohuslän coast, and pickled herring and schnapps – often flavoured - is a classic combination at Midsummer mealtimes.
